Headed to Mesa, AZ Museum Exhibition "Tomales Point, Point Reyes, CA"
"Tomales Point Trail, Point Reyes National Seashore Park" is framed and ready to ship to participate in the "Roadside USA" exhibition at the i.d.e.a. Museum in Mesa, AZ. Proud to participate, the curator said he chose my work because he wanted work that looked like it had actually been done on the road. It was.
SpaceX Launch No.1, Unmanned or Unwomaned, March, 2019, 2:49 a.m.
12X12”, acrylic on archival board, available.
I was supposed to go to the launch but it got complicated with the timing and the dogs, so my husband went. It was wonderful to experience the launch vicariously and watch the launches video stream.
Good grief, the power, the sound, the blinding light. That hundreds of people would be there at 2 - something in the morning was just incredible. The flight will be manned in July; maybe I’ll try again.
From SpaceX:
”At 2:49 a.m. EST on March 2, SpaceX launched Crew Dragon’s first demonstration mission from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This test flight without crew on board the spacecraft is intended to demonstrate SpaceX’s capabilities to safely and reliably fly astronauts to and from the International Space Station as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program.”
"St. Augustine, Aviles Street, Stained Glass Doorway" C. Twomey
12X12”, acrylic and mixed media on archival board.
Aviles St. in this old (1565!) town of St. Augustine is full of ancient doors and doorways of all shapes and sizes. This one in particular drew my attention - the colors, the shadows, the sunlight - all combined into a wonderful composition just begging to be painted.
“Two Boats, Bridge Street”, 12X12”, mixed media, work in progress
"Two Boats, Bridge Street" by C. Twomey
This is a work in progress; I still want to abstract the background a lot more. Painting here was interesting - there’s the Bridge Street Inn Bar right around the corner, so some rather happy patrons stopped by to talk as I painted. It’s a lovely spot as the pelicans dived around me and boats moved in and out of the harbor.
"Coquina Beach Surf's UP" C. Twomey
It’s always wonderful to get back to some plein air painting. I love when people walking by stop and comment while giving encouragement. The Gulf of Mexico was wild today, with 3 - 4’ waves and lots of surfers in wet suits (it’s got to be cold) trying out their boards. I loved this jetty jutting out into the ocean, and the way the waves angled off of it. This is a WIP/Work In Progress, but it’s getting there.
12X12” on archival canvas and board.
"Two Old Boats, Sarasota Bay" by C. Twomey
Been painting up a storm over the last three weeks - all outside, plein air. Trying some new paints, a mix of oils and Open Acrylics, so I’m getting there and beginning to understand the opacity and drying times. I stood next to the Bridge Tender Bar where 60’s Jimmy Buffet music played and the local guys kept asking me if I was painting them. A good day. 12X12” on archival board.
12X12”, mixed media, painting live at Coquina Beach, Anna Marie Island, Florida
"Coquina Beach, Two Palms" by C. Twomey, January 2019
There is something about these two palms that I find irresistible. The day was warm, about 75, and as I painted many encouraging and kind people stopped by to watch. Makes me think there is hope for humanity! While I was there a fisherman caught a Man ‘O Ray in his net, which he returned to the sea. I love the contrast between the decaying manmade cement wall and all of the ocean’s organics.
WIP Work In Progress: "Blue Mountain Night" by C. Twomey
There’s something strangely satisfying about starting a painting with a graduated tint. This is going to be the Blue Ridge Mountains as night descends on Asheville. It’s 12X16” on Canson board.

Just finished this piece after a visit to the Rochester area of Vermont. I wanted to capture the extraordinary contrast between the changing leaves and turbulent skies. The winters can be brutal there, but their falls are spectacular.

Painting In Vermont During Leaf and Stick Season
Fall along Saw Mill Hill Road; Rochester, Vermont
It’s a wonderful time to get out into nature and hike. I shot the above image of my dog Moxie on a glorious fall day, and plan to start a painting tomorrow fueled by the beauty of Vermont.
Speaking of hiking, I recommend a new, well researched book on hiking by Jenny Hobby. It's a 5,000 word 'Ultimate Beginners Guide to Hiking' book that would be helpful for anyone looking to get started.
Feel free to check it out here: https://hobbyhelp.com/hiking/
Thanks for your interest!
Tomales Bay Trail, Point Reyes, CA Plein Air
I sat above the ocean for about three hours, after having hiked from the last road towards the tip of Tomales Trail. While sitting here painting, a coyote slid by, his eye on me the entire time. I could hear the waves lapping against the shore as the tide came in. The pattern of the cliffs was of particular interest and beauty. This painting is for sale. it is about 11X7", unframed and is a watercolor.
Acrylics on archival board, 18X30"
"Grandfather Mountain Adoration" Commission Just Begun
Thrilled to begin this challenging commission! I took a day trip up to the mountain to get a feel for the area and soak in the history. There were some hikes that had significant elevation gains, but oh, the views!
From the website about the mountain: "This summer, Grandfather Mountain was inducted into the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Hall of Fame, having received five consecutive Certificate of Excellence awards since 2014, including 2018. In total, since 2012, Grandfather Mountain has received seven consecutive Certificates of Excellence."

Fireflies: Study of fireflies in June
The fireflies migrate to the tops of the oaks after about 9:00 pm. I wish I knew what they were planning. It's been humid, hot and the days filled with downpours, one after the other. Maybe they're trying to escape the earth? 4X6" on archival canvas board.
"Running Dogs Clouds With Mountains" C. Twomey Original Artwork
From the Blue Ridge mountains near Asheville - I wanted to capture the freedom of the clouds; the patterns in the mountains and contrast them with that pastural touch of civilization. These hills and valleys have become a muse and inspiration and provide endless motivation. Acrylic, 12 X 12" on canvas frame.
"Dense Forest, Hillside" by Twomey
I'm inspired by nature. I live in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina - surrounded by nature and filled with wonder at the rhythms above and below the earth. This painting is a combination of an acrylic pouring technique and drawing. The suggestions of forest shapes and distance complement the swirling geology below the world above.
This work is a cracking example of a new series. I'm using a pour technique combined with drawing. First I select my palette, then I mix my colors in containers using flow medium and sometimes dymethicone. I then free flow the paints into one single cup, deciding at the same time what color goes with what for the vision in my mind. Next comes the exciting pouring of the concoction onto an archival panel. Lastly is the drawing using various implements and a lot of creativity.
New Series: Manifesto
This earth series is deeply inspired by a respect and love for all things in nature. I live in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina and love to hike through the mountains. Their inspiration is what drives this series, as well as concern for the environment. It's interesting to imagine what's below the mountains; the geology, the layers, the rock striations.
This painting is 12 X 16" Canson canvas on board. It is unframed. This is acrylic including a brilliant metallic gold.
